BLE in Healthcare
The BLE in Healthcare ConsortiumTM is an affiliated organization of the Intelligent Health Association (IHA), operating under its auspices, guidelines and management.
Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), also known as Bluetooth Smart, is rapidly becoming the technology of choice in many healthcare applications. BLE delivers power-efficient and application-friendly wireless connectivity to a host of devices that monitor health in a hospital environment, or in the comfort of one’s home.
Key features of BLE include:
• Industry-standard wireless protocol that allows for multi-vendor interoperability;
• Ultra-low peak, average and idle mode power consumption, allowing the ability to operate for months on standard coin-cell batteries, or years using AA batteries;
• Standardized application development architecture leading to low development and operational costs;
• 128-bit AES data encryption allowing for some of the industry’s tightest security.
A new industry group, the BLE in Healthcare ConsortiumTM, was announced at the Intelligent Health Pavilion at HIMSS 2016 to foster adoption and accelerate the deployment of BLE technology in healthcare applications.
We invite your company to join this new consortium and help us accelerate the use of BLE technology in healthcare applications.
